#5 – Go for a Swim in Venetian Pool

At almost a century old, Venetian Pool was created in 1923 out of coral rock quarry. It features 820,000 gallons of spring water sourced from a natural aquifer and is filled and drained daily in the spring and summer months. It also features cave-like grottos for a unique swim experience. Because Venetian Pool is within a natural rock formation, the substantial depths will require you to constantly swim to stay afloat, making for great exercise and endurance challenge.  The pool is also fully staffed with a team of professional lifeguards constantly looking out for any swimmers needing assistance.

Health Benefits: Throughout history, swimming has been one of the best ways for people to not only exercise but also get rehabilitative benefits after injuries. According to Scientific American, swimming offers physical benefits like improved cardiorespiratory endurance and strength, social benefits like having fun and socializing with other people, and psychological benefits like stress-relief and developing patience.

Venetian Pool is located in 2701 De Soto Blvd, Coral Gables, FL.

#4 – Take a Bike Tour of Coral Gables

Coral Gables is known as “The City Beautiful” because of its pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, gorgeous Spanish architecture, green spaces, and roads lined with large oak trees. One great way to exercise and experience the sights of Coral Gables is to join the Gables Bike Tours, presented by the Coral Gables Museum and Bike Walk Coral Gables.

Health Benefit: Riding a bike puts weight on pelvis bones called ischial tuberosities, this makes exercise easy on the bones, a great benefit for people suffering from joint pain or age-related stiffness, this according to the Harvard Medical School Blog article titled “The Top 5 Benefits of Cycling”. Bike riding also builds muscle, provides an aerobic workout and helps you strengthen bones.

$10; $5 for Museum members and children under 12.

For more information, visit the Gables Bike Tours website.

#3 – Go Running with Coral Gables Run Club

Health Benefit: Running is likely the ultimate activity to get fit and live longer. According to a study from the American College of Cardiology mentioned by the Harvard Medical School Blog,  running just 5-10 minutes a day can extend your life by several years, compared with not running at all.
